Progressing steadily through the ranks, Mothibi has developed consistently from the youth to senior age divisions, and he is among the latest revelations in a Botswana sprint revolution.

Sticking his hand up against the world's most promising sprinters, he reached the 100m semifinals at the 2013 World Youth Championships and progressed to the penultimate round of the 200m event at the 2014 World Junior Championships.

In 2015, still competing in the Under-20 category, he charged to his first international medal when he grabbed silver as part of Botswana's 4x100m relay team at the African Junior Championships, and the following year he made a real impact for the first time at senior level.

Turning out at the African Senior Championships, he finished sixth against a world-class field in the 100m final, after crossing the line in 10.29 in the semifinals, just 0.09 shy of Isaac Makwala's national record.

Though he has shone in the 100m event in the early stages of his senior career, Mothibi also clocked 20.66 over 200m on home soil in the 2017 season, at the age of 20, again displaying significant potential over the half-lap distance.
